Its name, which translates to “Old Man’s Head Mountain,” is fitting for its distinctive shape and rugged terrain. Hikers and climbers are drawn to its challenging slopes and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Mount Namuli (Zambezia Province, Mozambique)

Mount Namuli, Mozambique’s second highest mountain range, rises sharply from the plains, providing habitat to species found nowhere else on earth. Designated as a Level 1 Priority Key Biodiversity Area, this mountain holds immense ecological significance. General Information about Inselbergs in Mozambique

Inselbergs are geological formations characterized by steep, rocky slopes and flat, often table-like summits. They are formed over millions of years through the erosion of surrounding rock layers, leaving behind isolated peaks that rise abruptly from the surrounding plains.

In Mozambique, inselbergs are not only geological marvels but also important cultural and ecological sites. Many inselbergs are sacred to local communities, serving as sites for ceremonies and rituals. They also provide vital habitat for a variety of plant and animal species, some of which are found nowhere else on earth.
